Penn State Shenango Falls Short in Close Contest Against Kenyon
The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team fell just short in a hard-fought contest against Kenyon College, losing 55-52 in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening. The Lions started strong, shooting 60% from the field in the first quarter to take a 19-12 lead. However, shooting struggles in the second half and missed free throws ultimately tipped the scales in Kenyon's favor.
Jaysina Sellers led Shenango with 12 points, adding three rebounds and two steals while connecting on 2-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc. Shar'Da Williamson delivered a strong all-around performance, with seven points and 10 rebounds, along with five assists, a steal, and a block. Hailee Aguinaga added seven points and seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end, providing key second-chance opportunities. Mya McNevin chipped in five points off the bench, including a critical three-pointer in the second quarter.
Shenango's balanced scoring effort saw eight players contribute offensively, but the team struggled at the free-throw line, hitting only 3-of-10 attempts. Their shooting from the field, which started at 60%, dropped to 25.7% in the second half, allowing Kenyon to rally. Kenyon's Alyssa Gest led all scorers with 17 points, including crucial three-pointers that secured the win for the visitors in the fourth quarter.
Despite the setback, Penn State Shenango displayed resilience and teamwork, showing promise for the games ahead. The Lions will begin their conference schedule this Friday, hosting Penn State Lehigh Valley at 5:30 PM. With the lessons learned from this close loss, Shenango will look to bounce back and start their PSUAC season on a high note. Fans are encouraged to attend and support the team in what promises to be an exciting matchup.
