Shenango Drops Close Game to Beaver Despite Early Lead
In the second half of Monday's doubleheader, Penn State Shenango saw its perfect conference start come to an end with a 7-3 loss to Penn State Beaver. Despite jumping out to an early advantage, a late-inning surge by the hosts proved to be the difference in the seven-inning contest.
Shenango struck first in the opening frame, plating two runs to take an immediate lead. After adding another run in the 5th inning to make it 3-1, the momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the 6th. Beaver's offense ignited for six runs in the inning, turning a two-run deficit into a four-run lead that Shenango was unable to overcome in their final at-bat.
Offensively, John Perry led the way with a double, while Dominic Fornataro, Dante Micaletti, and Anthony Miller each recorded a hit and scored a run. The team remained aggressive on the basepaths, totaling three stolen bases, including two from Fornataro.
Will Perry provided a solid start on the mound, striking out five and allowing three earned runs over 5.1 innings of work. Fornataro entered in relief in the 6th but was tagged with the loss as Beaver's bats found their rhythm late.
