Perry’s Blast and Dominant Arms Lead Shenango to Shutout Victory Thumbnail Title
Penn State Shenango delivered a dominant performance in Myrtle Beach on March 10th, shutting out New River CC 9-0. Behind a potent six-run third inning and a combined three-pitcher shutout, Shenango secured a convincing victory to move to 3-2 on the season.
Dominance on the Mound:
The pitching staff was the story of the day, racking up 14 strikeouts and allowing only five hits over seven innings. Tyler Houk earned the win with a masterful start, striking out six and allowing just four hits in four scoreless innings. Anthony Miller provided stellar relief in the fifth and sixth, striking out five of the nine batters he faced without allowing a hit. Dominic Fornataro closed the door in the seventh, striking out three to complete the team shutout.
Explosive Third Inning:
After two quiet frames, the offense erupted in the bottom of the third. Will Nardone and Dominic Fornataro set the table before Dante Micaletti loaded the bases with a bunt single. Jason Malley then broke the deadlock with a two-run single to left. The momentum continued as Nate Evans ripped an RBI double to center, scoring Micaletti. The highlight of the afternoon followed shortly after, as John Perry crushed a three-run home run to center field, capping off a six-run outburst that put the game firmly out of reach.
Adding Insurance:
Shenango added another run in the fourth when Mikey Guarnieri drove a single to right to score Troy Bachman. In the sixth, the lead stretched to 9-0 following a pinch-hit RBI from Connor Doeberiener and a fielder's choice from Fornataro that scored Dom Zitello.
