Shenango Comes Back to Complete Doubleheader Sweep
In the second half of the doubleheader in Largo, Maryland, Shenango completed the sweep of Prince George's Community College with a gritty 9-8 victory. While the morning game was a comfortable win, the nightcap proved to be a back-and-forth battle that required a late-inning comeback and a shutdown relief performance to secure the result.
Game Summary:
The scoring opened in the first inning when Troy Bachman reached on a double, allowing Jason Malley to drive him in. However, the Owls responded quickly, taking a 5-2 lead by the end of the second. Shenango's offense found its rhythm in the fourth and fifth innings, putting up two runs to keep the game within striking distance. The surge was highlighted by a clutch two-out RBI single from Mason Bevan.
The game took a dramatic turn in the bottom of the fifth. PGCC exploded for three runs, including a double to leapfrog Shenango and take a 7-4 lead.
Refusing to blink, Shenango punched back in the top of the sixth. Three players came through with RBIs, with Bachman, Malley, and Anthony Miller cashing in on a big inning.
Relief Pitching Secures the Sweep
After the offense regained the lead in the top of the 7th, Jacob Csonka took the mound in the bottom of the inning. He was dominant in relief, striking out two batters and allowing no hits to earn the save and silence the PGCC comeback attempt.
