PSU Shenango Splits Doubleheader with CCAC in Fall Opener
Niles, OH – Penn State Shenango baseball showed grit, fight, and plenty of firepower in their fall home doubleheader against the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC). After a heartbreaking 5–4 loss in Game 1, the Lions bounced back with an explosive 13–10 victory in Game 2 to split the day.
Game 1: Shenango Comes Up Short, 5–4
Shenango went toe-to-toe with CCAC in the opener, keeping the game close throughout. Dante Micaletti sparked the offense with quality swings out of the two-hole, while Anthony Miller and Troy Bachman added hard contact to keep pressure on CCAC's defense.
Jason Malley came through with an RBI knock to put Shenango on the board, and Josh Divens gave the Lions speed and energy in the outfield. Behind the plate, Michael Gushura worked tirelessly with the pitching staff, helping Shenango stay in striking distance.
Despite a late push, CCAC held on for the 5–4 win, but Shenango's energy never wavered.
Game 2: Lions Explode for 13 Runs in Slugfest Win
The bats woke up in Game 2 as Shenango erupted for 13 runs in a back-and-forth slugfest. Micaletti once again got the offense rolling at the top of the order, while Miller and Bachman delivered timely hits to keep the lineup moving.
The big blow came off the bat of Malley, who ripped a clutch RBI hit to spark a huge rally. Divens followed with a well-struck ball that drove in another run, and Connor Doeberiener kept the line moving with patient at-bats.
Later, Will Nardone and Josh Day added insurance RBIs as Shenango pulled away. Defensively, Remington Hart and Alex Mordone made key plays in the infield to hold off CCAC's late comeback attempt.
When the dust settled, Shenango walked away with a 13–10 victory, securing their first home win of the fall.
