Shenango Opens Conference Play with 3–1 Win Over Greater Allegheny

The Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball team made a statement in their PSUAC opener on Saturday, taking down Penn State Greater Allegheny in four sets (23-25, 25-9, 25-19, 25-19) at the Buhl Club. The win pushes Shenango to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
After dropping a tightly contested first set, Shenango stormed back with a commanding 25-9 win in the second frame. From there, the Lions controlled the pace, closing out the match with steady play in the third and fourth sets.
Sydney Ward led the charge with 13 kills on .545 hitting, while adding seven digs and an ace. Izzy Mauro was dominant at the net with 12 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, and Savana Shipman contributed a double-double performance with 10 kills and 11 digs. Amanda Hamilton added seven kills to round out the balanced attack.
Setter Jadeyn Zepeda orchestrated the offense with 39 assists, also notching four service aces. Taegan Scheller chipped in from the line with three aces of her own. As a team, Shenango hit .201 on the day, tallying 51 kills compared to Greater Allegheny's 24.
The victory gives Shenango an early boost in conference play as they look to build momentum for the rest of the season.
