Shenango Opens PSUAC Tournament Play with 6-1 Win Over York
Penn State Shenango opened postseason play with a strong all-around performance on Friday, defeating Penn State York 6-1 behind a complete-game outing from Nate Evans and a 13-hit offensive performance .
Shenango struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of early baserunners to grab a 1-0 lead on an RBI Fielder's Choice from Jason Malley. The offense broke the game open in the third inning with four runs when Troy Bachman sliced a two-run home run and John Perry added an RBI hit as Shenango extended its advantage to 5-0.
York answered with its lone run in the bottom half of the third, but Shenango's pitching staff kept control the rest of the way. Evans turned in one of his strongest performances of the season, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out seven. Shenango added an insurance run in the sixth inning when John Perry drove in his second run of the game, pushing the lead to 6-1.
At the plate, Shenango consistently pressured York pitching throughout the afternoon. Dante Micaletti and Perry each recorded three-hit performances, while Bachman finished with both a home run and triple in the elimination game victory.
