Shenango Falls in 16-Inning Heartbreaker at Tuscarawas
Penn State Shenango Baseball engaged in a marathon offensive struggle on Tuesday, ultimately falling 4-3 in a 16-inning battle against Kent State-Tuscarawas. In a game that spanned nearly five hours at Conotton Valley HS, the pitching staff delivered a massive collective performance, keeping the game deadlocked for over double the length of a standard outing.
Will Nardone turned in a masterclass of relief pitching to keep Shenango in the hunt. Coming out of the bullpen, Nardone tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, surrendering only three hits while racking up six strikeouts. His dominant middle-inning stretch silenced the Eagles' bats and allowed the Shenango defense to navigate multiple high-pressure situations.
The offense was ignited by Troy Bachman, who put together a gritty 3-for-6 performance at the plate. Bachman notched an RBI and remained active on the basepaths with a stolen base. Mikey Guarnieri also stayed hot, finishing 2-for-7 with a double, while JA Quahliero added two hits of his own to the team's 10-hit total.
Shenango showed its trademark resilience late in the contest. In the 16th inning, the squad rallied to take the lead when Anthony Miller entered the game as a pinch runner and successfully crossed the plate on a wild pitch, allowing Shenango to take the lead. But despite the heroic 16-inning effort and a pitching staff that combined for 11 strikeouts, Tuscarawas managed to find the gap in the bottom of the 16th to score two runs and secure the walk-off victory.
