Shenango Bats Explode in Shutout Victory vs Lorain County CC
Penn State Shenango baseball showcased a high-powered offense and a dominant performance on the mound Saturday, cruising to a 13-0 victory over Lorain County Community College in five innings at Pemberton Park. Shenango combined 14 hits with a stellar shutout to secure the win.
The offensive barrage began immediately in the bottom of the first inning. Jason Malley delivered the biggest blow of the frame, lacing a bases-clearing triple to center field that drove in Dominic Fornataro, Dante Micaletti, and JA Quahliero. Nate Evans followed with an RBI single, and Troy Bachman added a run-scoring hit of his own to spot Shenango an early 5-0 lead. The lead grew in the second inning when Evans continued his hot afternoon, lining a two-run single to left field that drove in Quahliero and Malley.
Shenango put the game completely out of reach with a six-run fourth inning. Evans notched his fifth RBI of the day with another two-run single to center, while Mikey Guarnieri added a sacrifice fly. Bachman then ripped an RBI triple to left, and the scoring was capped off as Brady Walker reached on an error to score a run and later crossed the plate himself on a wild pitch.
While the bats sizzled, Tyler Houk was untouchable on the mound. Houk tossed 5 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just three hits while striking out three to earn the victory.
Shenango finished the contest with a commanding 14-3 hit advantage, utilizing extra-base hits from Malley and Bachman to fuel the run-rule victory.
