Quahliero Homers Late as Shenango Battles in Myrtle Beach Clash
In a tough neutral-site matchup in Myrtle Beach, Penn State Shenango fell to Westmoreland County CC by a score of 9-2 on March 10th. Despite a late-inning home run and several scoring opportunities, Shenango couldn't overcome a late-game surge by their opponents.
Early Defensive Battle: The game began as a pitcher's duel, with starter Jacob Csonka commanding the mound early. Csonka struck out the side in the first inning, keeping the opposition off the board. Shenango's offense looked to strike first in the top of the frame when Dominic Fornataro walked and stole second, followed by a walk from Nate Evans, but the runners were left stranded.
Csonka Keeps it Close: Csonka continued to battle through the middle innings, finishing his outing with six strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work. Trailing 1-0 in the third, Shenango threatened again as Fornataro singled to the pitcher and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but a fielder's choice at the plate kept Shenango off the scoreboard.
Late-Inning Rally: After the opposition broke the game open with a high-scoring sixth inning, Shenango showed great resilience in the final frame. In the top of the seventh, Brady Walker drew a leadoff walk to set the stage for the highlight of the day. JA Quahliero crushed a two-run home run to left field, providing a much-needed spark for the offense.
Shenango continued to fight as Dante Micaletti reached on a single and Anthony Miller drew a walk to put two more runners on, but a flyout to left ended the comeback attempt.
