Dominant Shenango Sweeps DuBois to Advance to PSUAC Semifinals
The Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball team showed why they're the team to beat in the PSUAC West, dominating Penn State DuBois in straight sets (25-13, 25-7, 25-16) on Thursday night at the Buhl Club. The victory punches Shenango's ticket to the PSUAC Semifinals on Monday at University Park, where they'll face Penn State Mont Alto at 5 PM.
From the opening serve, Shenango set the tone with relentless energy and precise execution. Sydney Ward led the offensive charge with 15 kills and a blistering .583 hitting percentage, while Savana Shipman followed closely behind with 11 kills of her own and three aces. Izzy Mauro added eight kills, helping the Lions post a strong .400 team hitting percentage on the night. Setter Jadeyn Zepeda was once again the heartbeat of the offense, dishing out 35 assists while adding two aces and 4.0 points of her own. On defense, Shenango stayed sharp from start to finish—Jillian Palumbo and Shipman anchored the back row with 10 and eight digs respectively, keeping DuBois from ever finding a rhythm.
Shenango's dominance was complete, controlling every phase of the match. The team out-hit DuBois in all three sets, including an incredible .545 hitting clip in the second frame where the Lions committed zero errors. The win marks Shenango's 12th of the season and continues their undefeated run in PSUAC play. With momentum high and confidence soaring, the Lions now set their sights on the semifinal showdown against Mont Alto at University Park.
If Shenango can maintain this level of play, they'll be a force to reckon with as they chase a PSUAC Championship and a return to national contention.
