Shenango Volleyball Dominates in Sweep of New Kensington
Sharon, PA – Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball stayed hot in conference play Saturday afternoon, rolling past Penn State New Kensington in straight sets (25-6, 25-14, 25-19) at the Buhl Club. The win pushes Shenango to 6-6 overall and 5-0 in the PSUAC, while New Kensington dropped to 0-5.
The Lions wasted no time setting the tone, storming out to a 25-6 first-set win behind crisp execution and aggressive serving. Shenango hit .318 in the opening set, compared to New Kensington's -.333, leaving no doubt about which side controlled momentum. Sophomore Outside Hitter Izzy Mauro powered the offense with a match-high 12 kills on .524 hitting, rarely making a mistake at the net. She got plenty of help from Savana Shipman, who stuffed the stat sheet with nine kills, 14 digs, and four service aces.
Shenango's serving pressure was a difference-maker all afternoon. Sydney Ward delivered five aces and six kills, while setter Jadeyn Zepeda directed the attack with 26 assists and added two aces of her own. Defensively, the Lions dug nearly everything that came their way, finishing with 45 digs as a team. Shipman and Ward combined for 21, keeping New Kensington's hitters from finding much success.
New Kensington showed fight late, especially in the third set where they pushed Shenango to 25-19. Vada Allen led NK with six kills and 13 digs, while Emily Lewandowski added three kills. But in the end, Shenango's depth and efficiency proved too much. Taylor Burns chipped in four kills, and freshman Taegan Scheller made the most of her opportunities with a perfect hitting percentage (1.000).
