Shenango Volleyball Stays Perfect in Conference, Tops Beaver 3-1
Penn State Shenango kept its undefeated conference record alive Wednesday night at the Buhl Club, overpowering Penn State Beaver in a 3-1 victory (25-11, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18) to move to 4-0 in conference play and maintain sole possession of 1st place in the division.
The Lions came out swinging, dominating the first two sets with a relentless attack and precision serving. Savana Shipman and Sydney Ward led the offensive charge with nine kills each, while setter Jadeyn Zepeda controlled the tempo with 21 assists and chipped in three aces. Behind the service line, Gabby Villanueva Santos delivered a team-high eight aces, keeping Beaver on its heels all night. Shenango's defense was rock solid, piling up 60 digs to keep plays alive and frustrate Beaver's hitters.
Beaver battled back in the third, edging Shenango in a tight 23-25 set, but the Lions responded with a dominant fourth set to seal the match. Izzy Mauro was a force at the net, putting down eight kills and adding three solo blocks to shut down Beaver's late rally. With the win, Shenango improves to 4-0 in conference play (5-6 overall) and stands alone at the top of the division.
The Lions return to the Buhl Club this Saturday at noon for another crucial matchup against Penn State New Kensington.
