Lady Lions Open Season with Sweep of Miami–Hamilton
The Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball team started its 2025 campaign in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping Miami–Hamilton on the road by scores of 25–16, 25–20, and 25–20.The Lady Lions controlled the match from the opening serve, hitting .265 in the first set and keeping steady pressure on the Harriers throughout.
Izzy Mauro powered Shenango with a match-high 11 kills on an efficient .429 hitting percentage, while also adding a block solo and block assist for 14 points. Jadeyn Zepeda ran the offense with 16 assists, five service aces, and three digs in a strong all-around performance. Savana Shipman and Sydney Ward each chipped in five or more kills, with Ward hitting a team-best .333 while also collecting nine digs. Defensively, Shenango tallied 47 digs, led by Shipman and Zepeda with 10 apiece, and the team racked up 12 service aces overall.
Miami–Hamilton showed fight in the second and third sets but couldn't keep pace with Shenango's balanced attack and sharp serving.
With the victory, Shenango (1–0) notched its first win of the season before heading into a tough Saturday doubleheader at UC Clermont.
