Penn State Shenango Volleyball Ready to Make Noise in 2025
The Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball team is set to take the court this fall with one mission in mind: build on last year's success and push even further into the postseason. After finishing 7-3 in conference play in 2024 and advancing to the PSUAC Semifinals, the Lions return a strong core of experienced players alongside one of the most promising first-year classes in program history. Head Coach Andrew Frank, now entering his second year at Shenango, is eager to see the program continue its upward trajectory.
Building on 2024
The 2024 season proved Shenango can compete with anyone in the PSUAC. The Lions delivered five-set thrillers against Penn State Fayette and Penn State Greater Allegheny, including a gutsy quarterfinal win at home that sent them to the conference's final four. Returning Middle Hitter Sydney Ward emerged as a key contributor last season, setting the tone and building one of the strongest defensive units in the conference for this new era of Shenango Volleyball.
Returners to Watch
• Sydney Ward (So., Middle Hitter, Hubbard, OH) – Ward ended 2024 as one of Shenango's most efficient attackers, posting a .308 hitting percentage in the PSUAC semifinals against Hazleton.
• Maggie Briggs (So., Middle Hitter, West Middlesex, PA) – Adds blocking strength and front-row consistency with a year of college experience under her belt.
• Emma Murdock (Jr., Libero, New Castle, PA) – Her leadership skills make her one of the top leaders for incoming first-year players.
• Gabby Villanueva Santos (So., Libero, Campbell, OH) – Quick and versatile, she adds depth and steadiness to Shenango's serve-receive unit.
Newcomers to Watch
This year's first-year class brings athleticism and versatility to every position:
• Jillian Palumbo (Libero/DS, Hubbard, OH) and Taegan Scheller (DS) bolster Shenango's backcourt.
• Amanda Hamilton (OH, Salem, OH), Taylor Burns (OH, Leavittsburg, OH), and Savana Shipman (OH, Warren, OH) offer offensive options on the outside.
