Local Product Commits to Shenango Volleyball
SHARON, Pa – The Penn State Shenango Volleyball team added another piece of local talent to their roster this week. Sharon senior Leigha Root officially committed to Shenango on Wednesday.
Although Root is coming into Shenango during a transition period, her excitement didn't sway. "Thank you so much. This is the best day of my life," said Root.
In 2020 Root tallied in 60 kills, 11 aces and 14 blocks. Her numbers stayed extremely consistent during the 2021 season with 50 kills, 16 aces, and 13 blocks. During the two seasons she averaged 8 kills a game. Root's height and consistency will fill in some gaps the Lady Lions were looking to fill next season.
Root plans to major in pre-medicine, giving her two years to compete athletically at Shenango, where she will then move on to another Penn State Campus to complete her bachelor's degree.
