King’s 20-Point Effort Not Enough as Shenango Falls to DuBois
The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team (7-13, 6-9) fought through a difficult shooting start but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 67-46 to Penn State DuBois on Thursday night at the Buhl Club.
Gabrielle King carried the offensive load forShenango, finishing with a team-high 20 points. King was efficient from the floor, shooting 8-of-12, and was perfect from the free-throw line (4-of-4). She also added 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 32 minutes of action.
Joining King in double figures was Samair Colon, who notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Colon was aggressive, getting to the rim and drawing several fouls, finishing a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Defensively, she chipped in with a block and worked to keep Shenango competitive on the glass.
Alyssa Crankfield contributed across the stat sheet, leading the team defensively with 4 blocks to go along with 6 points and 7 rebounds. Oyin Adio also battled on the boards, pulling down 7 rebounds and dishing out an assist. Off the bench, Caroline Kuchling added 6 points and was perfect on her two free-throw attempts, while Shelby McBryar provided 4 rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes of play.
Despite the loss, Shenango was sharp from the free-throw line as a unit, converting 12 of 14 attempts (85.7%). The team also recorded a season-high 8 blocks defensively.
Shenango will look to regroup and find its offensive rhythm as it enters the PSUAC playoffs on Sunday
