Shenango Falls in Three-Point Heartbreaker at DuBois
In a hard-fought conference battle in DuBois, PA, on January 28, Penn State Shenango (4-11, 3-7) fell just short in a defensive grind, dropping a close contest to Penn State DuBois with a final score of 60-57. Despite a resilient second-half effort and a dominant performance on the glass, Shenango was unable to overcome a narrow halftime deficit in a game that came down to the final possessions.
The story of the night was the high-energy play of Alyssa Crankfield, who continued her mid-season tear by leading all scorers with 19 points. Crankfield was a force on both ends of the floor, adding five rebounds and two steals while providing the offensive spark Shenango needed to stay within striking distance. Matching her intensity was Samair Colon, who delivered another high-scoring performance. Colon added to the tally, scoring 17, and added three steals to the mix.
Kayla Owen added a steadying presence in the backcourt with 10 points and three steals, while the team's collective defense forced DuBois into several late-game miscues. Defensively, the Shenango held Dubois to a 31.5% shooting percentage. As a team, Shenango tallied 10 steals, keeping the game close until the very end.
Shenango will look to bounce back and regain its winning momentum as it returns home this Saturday to host Penn State Fayette at the Buhl Club at 1 PM.
