Shenango Loses Close Matchup Against Scranton
Sharon, PA — The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team gave fans a thrilling afternoon at home on Saturday, January 17, in a tight PSUAC matchup with Penn State Scranton. Shenango battled throughout and came up just short in a 68–66 final.
Shenango raced out with energy in the opening minutes, sharing the ball well and getting contributions from multiple players as the teams stayed close in the first quarter. The home crowd was into it early as the team moved the ball and looked aggressive attacking the basket. As the game progressed, both sides traded leads and responded to runs, making for a back-and-forth contest throughout the middle quarters. Shenango's effort on defense led to valuable stops, while offensively, the team worked to create good scoring chances through ball movement and crashing the glass.
In the fourth quarter, Shenango continued to battle, never backing down as the teams exchanged key buckets and defensive plays. With every possession feeling like a momentum swing, Shenango stayed composed and kept the game within reach down the stretch. Four Shenango players scored in double digits, with Alyssa Crankfield leading the way with 21 points and adding seven rebounds to the stat line. Samair Colon scored 13, while Shelby McBryar contributed 10 points off the bench. Kayla Owen had an all-around game, tallying a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Though Scranton pulled ahead late, Shenango stayed competitive until the final buzzer, showing determination on both ends and continuing to build confidence in close-game situations.
With the result, Shenango's overall record moves to 2–10 on the season and 1–6 in PSUAC play.
