Shenango Shows Fight in Narrow 58–53 Loss at Fayette
Lemont Furnace, PA – The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team battled hard on Tuesday night but fell just short in a competitive 58–53 loss to Penn State Fayette in PSUAC action.
Shenango (2-8, 1-4 PSUAC) came out with energy and precision in the first half, building a 33–26 lead at the break behind a balanced offensive effort. Strong defense kept Fayette's attack in check early, forcing turnovers and limiting easy looks as Shenango executed on both ends of the court. However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as Fayette rallied with an 18-7 scoring advantage, flipping the game and taking a 44-40 lead into the final period. Despite Shenango's resilience and a gritty effort down the stretch, the Lions couldn't quite reclaim the lead, ultimately falling by a five-point margin.
Alyssa Crankfield led the way for Shenango with a team-high 20 points, showcasing her scoring ability and leadership on the floor. Shenango also hauled in significant rebounds, with two players (Samair Colon and Crankfield) grabbing 11 boards each, helping keep possession alive and generating second-chance opportunities. Oyin Adio added seven steals, bringing a strong defensive presence to the court. Shenango's defense forced 10 Fayette turnovers, but the Lions struggled with consistency from the field, finishing at 26.3% shooting on the night. The team remained competitive by crashing the glass (44 total rebounds) and limiting easy baskets, but Fayette was able to hold on for the win.
Shenango returns to action on Friday against Hazleton as they look to get back in the win column and continue to build momentum in PSUAC play.
