Shenango WBB Battles in Season Opener Against Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo)
BUFFALO, NY — November 1, 2025 — The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team opened their 2025–26 season on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 64–39 to Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) at the Burt Flickinger Center. Despite the final score, the Lions showed positive signs, particularly in the second half, as they began to find rhythm offensively and assert themselves on the boards.
The game started slowly for Shenango, who trailed 20–5 after the first quarter and 34–10 at halftime. Offense began to click in the third quarter as the Lions outscored Bryant & Stratton 18–12 in the period, led by strong interior play and more consistent outside shooting. The late push reflected a noticeable adjustment in tempo and execution after the break.
Gabrielle King led Shenango with an impressive performance, scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds while shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. Samair Colon added seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals, while Senior Kylie Krupp provided a boost off the bench with 10 points—hitting three shots from beyond the arc.
Alyssa Crankfield pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, helping Shenango stay competitive on the glass, while Oyin Adio contributed six rebounds and two assists. Overall, Shenango finished with 52 total rebounds, nearly matching Bryant & Stratton's 55, showing their strength in second-chance opportunities and defensive effort throughout the contest.
The Lions shot 24.1% from the field and 21.7% from three-point range, while the Bobcats converted 30.3% of their attempts. Shenango's defensive effort forced Bryant & Stratton into 12 turnovers, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome despite a much-improved second half.
Bryant & Stratton was led by Jordyn Cooper-Best, who scored 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while Chelsea Johnson posted a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Penn State Shenango (0–1) will look to bounce back quickly as they continue their weekend road trip on Sunday, November 2, when they take on Bryant & Stratton–Syracuse at 12:00 PM in their second game of the regular season.
