Sharon, Pa - Penn State Shenango Athletics has announced the hiring of Toledo, Ohio, native Cimone Reid to be the next head coach of its women's basketball team.

Reid brings a depth of experience to Penn State Shenango's Program. The Ottawa Hills High graduate was a standout player where she was named first team all-conference and second team all-district. Reid then followed in her father's footsteps as she attended Thiel College. Her father, Shawn Reid, was a standout basketball player for Division 1 Furman University. He still holds the university's record for 3-point shooting percentage.

Reid made her own impact felt where she was a captain for the Lady Tomcats basketball team, and one of its top scorers over her tenure with the program. Reid also made her mark academically as an intern for the Presidents Athletic Conference.

"I'm excited to welcome Cimone to our campus and our team," said Penn State Shenango Director of Athletics Amanda Howett. "She has a lot of experience playing in the valley and has made great connections with local prospects already. She's extremely relatable to the young women on the team as well. We are looking forward to Shenango's inaugural season with Cimone at the helm."

Reid becomes the second head coach in the era of the Penn State Shenango women's basketball program. She succeeds Coach Daniel Johnson who stepped down from the position due to personal reasons. Reid was hand-picked by Johnson prior to his departure.

"I want to thank the Shenango campus for their support," said Reid. "We are going to work hard, and that's what it takes when you're building a program from the ground up to be successful. We have the support of the community, and the campus, and you need that."

Even though Reid and the program are in its infancy, the first-year coach already has her sights set high.

"We already have goals that we want to reach and achieve, and we will work hard to get those done," said Reid. "I want to establish a tradition of excellence here, and have an overall great opening season. My dad raised me to become a coach. We spent a lot of time focusing on the ins and outs of the game. He helped me develop as a player but more importantly he helped me understand what it takes to become a good coach."

The inaugural season for Penn State Shenango Lady Lions kicks off on Nov. 10, where they open on the road at nearby Westminster College. Their first home game will be on Nov. 16, as they host Penn State DuBois alongside the men's team at the F.H. Buhl Club.
