Santiago and Williams Combine for 51 Points in Double-Overtime Thriller Over DuBois
In a game that required every bit of the 50 minutes played, the Penn State Shenango Men's Basketball team (13-12, 8-8) emerged victorious with a heart-stopping 102-99 double-overtime win against Penn State DuBois on Sunday afternoon at the Buhl Club.
Izzy Santiago and Darius Williams formed a lethal backcourt duo, combining for 51 points. Santiago led the scoring effort with 26 points, including a clutch free throw in the final seconds of the second overtime. Williams was once again the engine of the offense, recording a massive double-double with 25 points and 13 assists, while also snagging five steals on the defensive end. Williams was particularly effective at the charity stripe, knocking down 12 of 14 attempts. Underneath the basket, Rhys Grocott put on a defensive clinic. Grocott notched a double-double with 16 points and a team-high 16 rebounds, but his most impactful stat was his six blocks, which repeatedly thwarted DuBois' attempts to take control in the paint.
Kevon Washington also reached double figures, contributing 19 points and eight assists, playing a vital role in keeping the offense fluid during the high-pressure overtime periods. Devin Alston anchored the rebounding effort alongside Grocott, hauling in eight boards to go with nine points, while Jordan Dotson provided seven points and five assists off the bench. Shenango's defensive tenacity was on full display in the closing moments. With the game tied at 99 in the second overtime, Jordan Dotson came up with a massive steal with just four seconds remaining, leading to the final sequence that iced the game.
The team recorded a season-high 31 assists on their 37 made field goals and forced 21 DuBois turnovers.
With the win, Shenango moves over .500 for the season, building significant momentum entering the next round of the PSUAC tournament.
