Washington’s 32-Point Masterclass Propels Shenango to Statement Win Over DuBois
The Penn State Shenango Men's Basketball team (12-12, 8-8) used an explosive 50-point second half to secure a vital 94-83 victory over Penn State DuBois on Thursday night at the Buhl Club.
Kevon Washington delivered a career-defining performance to lead the Shenango attack. Washington poured in a game-high 32 points, showcasing his versatility by knocking down three triples and going 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. He added 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 36 minutes of high-energy play.
While Washington provided the scoring punch, Darius Williams operated as the game's ultimate floor general. Williams flirted with a triple-double, recording a staggering 15 assists to go along with 13 points and 5 rebounds. His vision anchored a Shenango offense that assisted on 26 of its 35 made field goals.
Izzy Santiago was equally lethal on the perimeter, contributing 23 points, 6 rebounds, and a team-high 3 steals. Santiago's ability to get to the line and finish (6-of-6 FT) helped stave off several DuBois runs in the closing minutes.
Shenango's frontcourt also provided crucial production. Jordan Dotson provided a massive spark off the bench with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and a block, while starter Rhys Grocott dominated the glass with a team-high 10 rebounds and chipped in 9 points. Devin Alston added 4 points and matched Santiago with 3 steals, anchoring the perimeter defense.
As a team, Shenango shot a solid 46.1% from the field and were clinical from the free-throw line, finishing at 81.8%. Most impressively, Shenango took care of the basketball, committing only 7 turnovers compared to 16 for DuBois.
The victory brings the Shenango back to .500 on the season, and they will be hosting Dubois as the #4 seed in the conference tournament.
