Shenango Overpowers DuBois Behind Dominant Performances from Grocott and Williams
In a clinical road performance in DuBois, PA on January 28, Penn State Shenango (8-10, 4-6) dismantled Penn State Du Bois with a final score of 99-79. Building on the momentum of their historic blowout last week, Shenango utilized a high-powered offense and dominant individual efforts to jump out to a 51-36 halftime lead and never look back.
The victory was headlined by a pair of 20-point performances that showcased the team's balance. Rhys Grocott delivered a masterclass in interior efficiency, posting a massive double-double with 20 points on a blistering 7-of-8 from the field. Grocott was just as influential on the defensive end, anchoring the paint with a game-high 10 rebounds and five blocks. Matching that scoring output was Darius Williams, who continued his elite playmaking with 20 points on 72% shooting (including 3-of-3 from deep) while adding eight assists and seven rebounds to lead the floor.
Shenango also saw elite contributions from its backcourt duo. Kevon Washington was the engine of the offense, playing 38 minutes and chipping in 18 points and five assists. Meanwhile, Izzy Santiago remained a constant threat on both ends, scoring 16 points and racking up a game-high five steals to ignite Shenango's transition game. Defensively, Shenango was relentless, recording 9 blocks and 13 steals as a team to frustrate the DuBois attack. Aidan Slocum rounded out the top performers, contributing 12 points, three blocks, and two steals in another steady two-way performance.
This victory marks a significant step forward as the squad continues their push through the heart of the conference schedule. Shenango will look to carry this momentum back home as they host Penn State Fayette this Saturday at 3 PM.
