Shenango Shows Grit in 92-85 PSUAC Road Loss at Fayette
LEMONT FURNACE, PA — The Penn State Shenango Men's Basketball team battled through a tough road test on Tuesday night but came up just short in a 92-85 PSUAC loss to Penn State Fayette at the Lemont Furnace Community Center. Shenango (6-8, 2-4 PSUAC) stayed competitive throughout the contest thanks to strong individual efforts and a milestone performance from senior standout Izzy Santiago.
The Lions were paced offensively by Santiago, who poured in 27 points and in doing so reached the 1,000-point mark for his collegiate career — a rare and celebrated achievement in the Penn State Shenango record books. Santiago's scoring prowess and leadership were on full display as he consistently attacked the basket and generated offense for the Lions when they needed it most. Kevon Washington poured in 33 points, while making seven three-pointers on the night, assisting in the comeback effort.
Shenango remained in the hunt deep into the second half, using timely baskets and tough defense to chip away at Fayette's lead. The Lions also made critical free throws down the stretch, and their collective effort highlighted the team's competitive spirit and refusal to back down in conference play. Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for Shenango to build on, most notably Santiago's historic scoring milestone and the overall performance from the group. The squad will look to carry that momentum forward as they return home and continue competition later this week.
Up Next: The Lions return home for their next PSUAC showdown on Friday night against Penn State Hazelton. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
