Shenango Rolls to 122–109 Victory Behind Santiago's Record-Breaking Night and Multiple Double-Doubles
The Penn State Shenango Lions delivered one of their most electric performances in recent memory on Thursday night, powering past Butler County Community College in a 122–109 showcase at the Buhl Club. The night featured highlight plays from start to finish—relentless scoring, dominant rebounding, sharp ball movement, and a historic individual milestone that etched itself into Shenango history.
The spotlight belonged to Izzy Santiago, who erupted for 36 points on an ultra-efficient 15-for-20 shooting performance. He not only re-broke his own career high, but also set a new school record for single-game field goals made. Santiago scored in every fashion imaginable—attacking the rim, pulling up in transition, and finishing strong through contact—while adding nine rebounds and three steals in one of the most memorable stat lines ever recorded at the Buhl Club.
Right alongside him, Darius Williams powered the Lions with 32 points, repeatedly slicing through Butler's defense and converting at the line (13-for-16). Williams controlled the pace and delivered in every facet of the game, finishing with seven rebounds, six assists, and multiple key buckets that helped Shenango maintain momentum each time Butler threatened to close the gap.
Shenango's depth was on full display as well. Kevon Washington delivered a do-it-all performance with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, including back-to-back threes early in the second half that ignited the home crowd and stretched the lead into double digits. Inside, Rhys Grocott came off the bench for a powerful 14-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Jordan Dotson added 10 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists, dominating the offensive glass and swinging possessions in Shenango's favor. Aidan Slocum gave the Lions an early spark with a perfect 3-for-3 shooting start and seven points, adding to the team's high-paced attack.
The Lions jumped out early with a 9–0 run after trailing 2–0, fueled by Washington's opening three, Slocum's deep ball, and relentless scoring from Santiago. Butler responded with several runs of their own, but Shenango always countered—whether through Santiago's mid-range scoring, Williams attacking the rim, or Grocott and Dotson cleaning up the boards. A late first-half surge capped by a Santiago steal-to-Williams layup pushed the Lions into halftime up 54–48, energizing the Buhl Club crowd.
Shenango carried that momentum into the second half, quickly extending the lead behind Williams' aggressiveness, Grocott's inside finishing, and Washington's confident perimeter shooting. Washington's two threes at the 7:48 and 7:33 marks stretched the advantage to 96–83, and from there, Shenango's efficient offense and rebounding control locked down the win. The Lions shot a blistering 58.3% from the field, dominated the glass 47–41, and showcased the balanced attack that makes them a dangerous opponent moving forward.
Now 3–3 on the season, the Lions look to build on this explosive performance.
