Shenango Men Win a Thriller in Overtime Against Bryant & Stratton-Rochester
Penn State Shenango earned a gutsy road victory, 72-70 in overtime, riding late game poise, second chance grit, and a wave of clutch shot making.
Shenango jumped in front behind an early finish from Rhys Grocott and a strong rim attack by Darius Williams. Kevon Washington splashed the first of several momentum threes, Izzy Santiago pushed pace and piled rebounds, and Devin Alston dialed in from deep as the Lions closed the half ahead 32-28.
Rochester surged after the break to grab the lead, but Shenango refused to crack. Jordan Dotson changed the tempo with downhill drives and free throws, Washington buried another three to halt a run, and Alston kept the Lions connected with timely jumpers. When the opponent nudged in front in the final minute, Shenango answered with its biggest bucket of regulation. Williams beat the horn on a pull up to tie it 65-65 and send the game to overtime.
In the extra period, the Lions owned the big moments. Alston rose up for a go ahead jumper, then canned another from mid range for a 69-65 cushion. Washington cleared key rebounds, Santiago delivered a late assist, and Dotson stepped to the stripe for two ice cold free throws with 16 seconds left. Washington added one more at the line with five seconds remaining to make it 72-67, and a last second Rochester three only trimmed the final margin.
This one was won with depth and toughness:
-
Kevon Washington — multiple momentum threes, late rebounds, and the closing free throw.
-
Darius Williams — the buzzer beater in regulation and relentless glass work.
-
Devin Alston — two dagger jumpers in overtime and steady scoring throughout.
-
Jordan Dotson — bench spark, clutch free throws in both halves and overtime, plus key boards.
-
Izzy Santiago — rebounds, pace setting, and the assist on the regulation tying shot.
-
Rhys Grocott and Langston Boyd — early tone setting finishes and hustle plays that stacked extra possessions.
From the first burst to the final whistle, Shenango's identity was clear — guard the glass, share it, and trust the next man up. The payoff was their first win of the young season, sealed in overtime.
