Shenango Power Surges Late to Drop Tuscarawas 8-4
Penn State Shenango Baseball used a balanced offensive attack and a clinical relief performance to secure an 8-4 road victory over Kent State-Tuscarawas on Tuesday. After a quiet start, Shenango exploded for seven runs across the 5th and 6th innings to pull away from the Eagles.
The game turned in the 6th when Brady Walker delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, a two-run home run that sparked a four-run rally. Dante Micaletti anchored the middle of the order, finishing with a double and two RBIs, while Troy Bachman and Nate Evans each drove in a run to keep the line moving. Tyler Evans was a constant threat on the basepaths, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk. Bachman added to the pressure by swiping two bags as part of a 2-for-5 day at the plate.
On the mound, Shaun Updegraff earned the win with a stellar relief outing. Coming on in the fourth, Updegraff tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three to silence the Eagles' comeback hopes. He took over for Jacob Csonka, who struck out two in the start.
Shenango's discipline and power were the difference, as the squad out-hit Tuscarawas 11-6 and successfully navigated a messy fourth inning to reclaim control and cruise to the finish.
