Shenango Shut Out in Narrow Road Duel
Penn State Shenango baseball was locked in a tight defensive battle on Sunday morning, ultimately falling 2-0 to Lorain County Community College at ForeFront Field. Despite a masterful performance on the mound from starter Will Perry, Shenango was unable to find the timely hit needed to break through.
Will Perry was the story for Shenango, turning in a dominant complete-game performance. Perry threw all six innings, allowing just one lone hit and two runs (both earned) while striking out seven. He kept the opposition off-balance for nearly the entire contest, retiring the side in order in the first, second, and fourth innings. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third. Lorain County utilized a leadoff walk and a stolen base to put a runner in scoring position before an RBI single provided the game's first run. A subsequent hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded pushed the score to 2-0.
Offensively, Shenango consistently put runners on base but could not capitalize. Dominic Fornataro led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, while John Perry reached base three times via a hit and two walks. JA Quahliero also worked two walks, contributing to a total of seven free passes earned by the Shenango lineup. The defense was flawless behind Perry, recording no errors and keeping the game within a single swing of the bat until the final out.
Shenango finished the game with four hits and stranded 12 runners on base, a testament to their ability to threaten throughout the seven-inning contest despite the final score.
