Shenango Drops Doubleheader Finale to St. Clair County CC
In the second half of Thursday's doubleheader at Griffith Field, Penn State Shenango was defeated by St. Clair County Community College, 14-2.
St. Clair County established control early, putting up eight runs in the top of the first inning. Shenango's defense struggled to contain the opening surge, which featured eight hits and two errors. Shenango got on the board in the bottom of the second, where Dominic Fornataro drew a walk and Nate Evans followed with a single to put two runners on. Will Perry then delivered a single to center field, driving in Fornataro to make it 8-1.
The opposition added two more unearned runs in the third inning to push the lead to 10-1. In the sixth, they capitalized on wild pitches and a passed ball to bring across four additional runs. Shenango continued to fight in the bottom of the sixth. Will Perry sparked the inning with a double and Troy Bachman followed with a single. Dom Zitello then drove a sharp single to second base, scoring Perry for Shenango's second run of the game.
Will Perry led the offensive effort, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Nate Evans, John Perry, Troy Bachman, and Dom Zitello each added hits for Shenango. On the mound, Connor Doeberiener provided a strong middle-relief performance, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out one.
