SHARON, PA- Russell Gariepy cruised home with a left handed layup with 4 seconds remaining to ice the game for Penn State Shenango (15-11) to send the Lions to the PSUAC conference tournament semi finals. Junior Kenneth Rouse of PSU-Greater Allegheny (16-9) made a valiant three point shot attempt to tie the game as the buzzer sounded but the ball rolled around the rim and out.
Larry Ransom, Jr. dominated underneath with a another spectacular effort collecting 23 points and 22 rebounds while shooting 8 of 13 from the floor. Brayden Martin chipped in with 14 points and 4 boards while Anthony Bailey, Jr. added 11.
Jordan Payne had 18 for PSUGA while Makis Rivera added 14 shooting 6 of 9 from the floor.
The game was close from the opening tipoff with PSU Shenango leading the entire game until Mhonte Newsome made a layup to tie the game at 61 with 44 seconds remaining. Then Gariepy cleared into some open space, took a pass from Brayden Martin on the left side of the floor and laid it in to seal the game. The Lions held the normally sharp shooting Greater Allegheny team to just 36 percent shooting for the night and 3 of 19 from behind the arc.
With the win Penn State Shenango advances to the semi finals on Friday night to play at Penn State Wilkes Barre now 21-4 overall and 19-1 in the conference.
