SHARON, PA- As the temperature rose to over 50 last night outside the Buhl Recreation Center it got even hotter on the inside. A packed house saw the Penn State Shenango Lions catch fire and earn a key conference victory versus Penn State DuBois, 82-40. The Lions were led by a balanced scoring effort with 5 players reaching double figures and Sharon High product Ramell Askerneese leading the way with 15. Brayden Martin also added 14 and John Brown 12 on the night.
Penn State Shenango started off in control, taking a 44-18 lead into the intermission and maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the final frame. A strong rebounding effort also aided the Lions, outdueling their opponents on the boards by a tally of 38-20. The Lions also shot impressively all night shooting 49 percent from the floor, 73 percent from behind the arc, and 90 from the charity stripe.
Penn State DuBois was led on the night in scoring by Jonathan Turk, coming off the bench and hitting 11 and Dylan Huey with 9.
Penn State Shenango improved their record to 5-8 on the season, 4-3 in the conference, while Penn State DuBois fell to 4-9 overall, 0-7 in the conference. The Lions have a week off before facing conference division leader Penn State Beaver on January 15th at home at the Buhl Recreation Center. Penn State Beaver is currently a half game up on Shenango with a conference record of 4-2. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm. Also, follow the action live on Sports Radio 96.7 fm.
