YORK, PA- Gannon Murray led Penn State Shenango on Saturday afternoon to another win on the road at Penn State York, 80-66. The freshman from Boardman, Ohio led the Lions with a 20 point, 9 rebound, 5 assist, and 2 steal stat line for the game.
The Lions jumped out to an early 18-13 lead midway through the first half only for Penn State York to tie it back up at 21-21 at the 6:30 mark. The Lions then took back control when Russell Gariepy nailed a three then followed it with a steal and another two points on a jumper allowing the Lions to take a 33-31 lead into the half.
Penn State York started the second half on fire outscoring Penn State Shenago 15-6 early on and taking a 46-38 lead on Shenango at the 14:17 mark. Then the Lions had taken enough. Led by strong work on the boards by Larry Ransom, Jr. (Youngstown, Ohio) with 7 boards, 3 on offense, and Arthur Jackson (Cleveland, Ohio), adding 4 more offensive rebounds, the Lions quickly reclaimed their dominance and carried it through the rest of the game.
Coming into the game shooting 23 percent from behind the arc, the Lions shot 10 of 15 from three point range led by Ramell Askerneese (Sharon, PA) with 4 of 7 and Brayden Martin (Grove City), 4 of 4 from three point range. The Lions sharp shooting stretched a 59-57 lead at the 5:52 mark into a 80-66 differential at the final buzzer.
Askerneese finished the contest with 17 points and 6 rebounds while Brayden Martin ended with 12. Justin Luton led Penn State York with 17 points while Anthony Bennett added 13.
Penn State Shenango improved their record to 3-3 overall (2-0 in the conference) while Penn State York fell to 4-2 overall (1-2 in the conference).
